Charles Darwin's theory of Natural Selection was thought of in around 1832 when he was in the Galapagos Islands, he realized that those species that had variation gave them an advantage in staying alive long enough to successfully reproduce. These are the ones that pass on their traits more frequently to the next generation. So, their traits become more common and the population evolves. Darwin called this "descent with modification." Among the birds he observed, the ones with beaks better suited for eating cactus got more food. As a result, they were in better condition to mate. Similarly, those with beak shapes that were better suited to getting nectar from flowers or eating hard seeds in other environments were at an advantage there. In a very real sense, nature selected the best adapted varieties to survive and to reproduce.

Is it true Darwin named the process by witch evolution proceeds artificial selection?

What well known process was important in developing both Mendel's and Darwin's ideas?

Artificial Selection.

How is natural selection used in artificial selection?

Natural variation in artificial selection is used because humans choose from among the naturally occurring variation s in species. Natural selection is related to species fitness because Darwin called natural selection survival of the fittest because those that could survive would carry their species on there for being the naturally selected.

How did artificial selection influence Darwins thinking?

Maybe u should actually answer because i'm to tupid to know the answer/ The artificial selection although controlled by the choices of humans created novelty in the races. During natural selection the environment is responsible for selecting the best types. Darwin's ideas of natural selection were based on the fact of struggle for existence and survival of the fittest. Thus by artificial selection some of the races have been developed which can sustain the present environmental conditions. this has contributed to his ideas.

What type of selection that humans control?

Artificial selection.Artificial selection is the selection, by humans, of which individual plants or animals to breed from. In this way desirable characteristics, such as increased yield or disease resistance, can be preserved or improved.Charles Darwin used artificial seletion as a model for how evolution could take place in nature, where competiton between individuals replaced the selective action of humans. He called the natural process 'natural selection'.See http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/evo101/IIIE4Evochange.shtmlfor an excellent account.

Why did artificial selection interest Darwin?

He noticed a lot of variation in domesticated plants and animals. Darwin saw artificial selection as a means of understanding natural selection.

When organisms with desirable characteristics are mated by humans what is it called?

This is called Artificial Selection. Artificial Selection is the source of most modern produce and meat. For instance, corn is has been artificially selected to have larger kernels and cobs to provide more food. One theorized origin of Corn is a small grass bush called teosinte. Artificial selection is not entirely beneficial however. Certain Dog Breeds subjected to generations of artificial selection have developed propensities for painful and deadly illnesses. Heart, muscular, respiratory, and neurological dysfunctions number among the problems some breeds experience. Charles Darwin studied artificial selection by breeding traits in pigeons.
