They would sometimes dress like the same way tavern-keeps would dress. When they were working with various substances and running their experiments, they knew that they may get dirty. Being that they did have some degree of education, they did want to appear to have outfits that were nice at the same time. Sort of an outfit that was in between middle and upper class.
I did a little looking into it and I found a picture of what I'm talking about. I'll put a link in the sources section as to what I'm talking about.
Hope it helps and good luck with your project.
Alchemists were researchers who worked in Europe and the Middle East during the Middle ages.

The alchemists were the first chemists. They mixed chemicals, but also believed that magic would help them in their experiments and formulas. It didn't. But their chemical experiments eventually led to the science of chemistry.

forensic science technicians wear goggles n gloves but other than that they wear regular clothes.
Cerium was not known by alchemists.
The alchemists were unaware that atoms even existed.
Most of the strongest Alchemists appear to be men.

The alchemists were trying to make gold out of ordinary things.
Alchemists could not turn metal into gold because gold is an element.
I don't think "alchemists" is the word you meant to use, because your question does not make sense. Alchemists are people who try to magically turn lead into gold, or otherwise magically turn one substance into another.
