Members of the phylum Sarcodina, or sarcodines, move via temprorary cytoplasmic projections known as pseudopods (SOO-doh-pahdz). Sarcodines are animallike protists that use pseudopods for feeding and movement. The most common known sarcodines are the amoebas, which are flexible, active cells with thick pseudopods that extend out of the central mass of the cell.
Sarcoidiosis is a disease characterized by the presence of granulomas most likely in the lungs and lymph nodes although it can occur in any organ. The cause of this disease is still unknown. Granulomas are simply a ball like mass of immune cells, bacteria cells, infectious cells that forms due to the bodies response in attempting to fight off a foreign invader. The disease can be asymptomatic or have chronic pains which may lead to death.
Sarcodina is an obsolete term used for amoebas. These single-celled organisms reproduce by cellular division, and many of them are capable of independent movement.
