Usually you add a container to the balance then zero it. Then when you add something to the container e.g. a liquid or solid then when you place the container back on the balance the reading shows you how much you have added. Saves having to work out how much you added by weighing the container, weighing the container plus contents and then subtracting. Removes one possible source of error i.e. incorrect subtraction of values. Also faster/easier when trying to measure out a specific amount of a substance.
Imagine you want to weigh a certain liquid. You can't just pour the liquid onto the balance because it would run off all over the place, but you can weigh it in a container such as a beaker. But if you weigh the liquid and the beaker together the balance will read the total mass of the two; beaker + liquid. You need to take into account the mass of the beaker.
So you put the beaker onto the balance and zero it. Even though the beaker is on the balance the balance will read zero now. Now if you pour your liquid into the beaker, the mass reading will be that of the liquid alone.
yes that's right
"To zero out the mass" When using an electronic balance, when you place an empty container on the pan, and then hit the 'tare' button, the value of the mass resets to zero. Then, when you put something in the contain, the balance will register the new mass.
To tare the balance is when, for example, you place a beaker on the balance and then click on the tear button which puts the balance back to zero. This putting the balance back to zero is called "tareing the balance".
A diode is an electronic component with the characteristic that its resistance is not constant, but depends on the magnitude of the current through it. An ideal diode has zero resistance to current in one direction, and infinite resistance to current in the reverse direction.

zero
The device is said to be calibrated
It disregards the mass of the object (say for example, a graduated cylinder or beaker) already on the balance.
It means the outstanding balance has been paid in full - leaving a zero balance owing.
Move both gram weights to zero and balance it out by using the knob.
it means you need to zero or calibrate it.

A charge off with a zero balance means that a creditor has written off your account as a bad debt. This will show up as a negative mark on your credit report.
