Actually, football and all sports games generally have a lot to do with science. For example, the different types of energy used.

  • Kinetic - Movement of the player/ball
  • Potential - Coming from the player
  • Sound - Created from the transfer of energy/impact on ball

Energy transfer happens between the kinetic energy generated by the player, to the ball. Some energy is lost due to Albert Einstein's famous equation, E = mc2.

The path of flight that the football follows is due to the players' angle of trajectory. This applies the angle of height at which the ball travels to its destination at.

The energy created by the player to strike the ball is not completely transferred or lost - most is not transferred and that is why you follow through your kick. Only a small percentage on the energy applied actually is transferred to the ball. The harder you kick, the further the ball goes, the more energy is left for the follow through afterwards.

More types of science are included, like simply moving yourself. This could go into detail about the human body's working, but I am not too good on human anatomy.

A big part of Newton's first law is inertia, which would be the natural resistance a player at rest experiences as he sets himself in motion, and for a player in motion, to stop moving. A running back is at rest while he waits for the center to snap the ball to the quarterback. Once the play begins, the back pumps his legs to overcome static inertia, takes the hand off, and then tries to maintain moving inertia until a defense man tackles him, restoring static inertia
