That there are gaps. For example we may have fossils from 30million years ago and then ones from 20million years ago but then none inbetween. This means we don't know about the evolution between these two point.

Why the fossil record contains an incomplete record of the history of life on earth?

We have an incomplete fossil record because the earth is continually re-cycling its' crust. The oldest oceanic crust is less than 200 million years old and as most fossils are found in sediments deposited at the bottom of seas and oceans, this means that only the small amounts pushed up onto the edge of continents, when oceanic crust is subducted, are preserved. Fossilization is only a very rare occurrence so many species of animals and plants never get the chance to become fossils. There are other reasons; when an earthquake pushes up a part of the crust it disturbs the cycle of deposition of sediment. A drop in sea level would also do something similar. This means that if organisms were previously buried, a change of deposition could mean whole sections of sediment being washed away, along with the potential fossils.

Which of the following is an example of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection?

Assuming you mean evolution. Virtually every living species on this planet has evolved over time and the fossil record demonstrates this to an amazing degree.

What does record mean in science terms?

record in science terms means keeping track of reactions in an experiment to reinforce how to get the same reaction so there is a lot less effort needed in that particular experiment.

What does it mean by gaps within living things or fossils?

Gaps in the fossil record refer to missing evolutionary links between different species or groups. These gaps can occur due to factors like incomplete preservation or lack of fossil evidence. In living things, gaps can refer to missing or unexplained features in the evolutionary history or genetic makeup of a species.

If metal sticks to a fossil does that mean it real?

No, it does not. It simply means that the metal is being drawn magnetically by a magnetic charge in the object. Being a fossil has no effect on this.

What does the term fossil mean?

A living fossil generally refers to a living organism, animal or plant, whose species has been around long enough on the planet to be part of the fossil record. Most fossilized species are extinct, but there are a few which are either still in existence, or have descendents which closely resemble them.

Will fossil fuels always be around?

fossil fuels form in millions and millions of years, which means that they are always being made. This doesn't necessarily always mean that they will always be available because they are a non renewable resource, but they will be in the process of being formed.
