Latitude has everything to do with climate . - The tropics are between 23.5S and 23.5N latitude, - here high temperatures are the norm. Either way north or south from this, ambient temperatures get lower and climate is cooler as you move towards either pole.

The closer one is to the equator, the warmer the climate. This is because the sun's energy is most concentrated at the equator due to the higher solar elevation angle.

Which of these factors has the greatest influence on the temperature of an area?

The things that affect climate are global winds, ocean currents, distance to water, topography, latitude, and elevation.

What factors do scientists consider as they classify climates?

The factors are:-1. Distance from the sea2. Ocean currents3. Direction of prevailing winds4. Relief5. Proximity to the equator6. The El Nino phenomenon7. Recently it has accepted that Human activity is also affecting climate.8. Locationor...1. Latitude - Distance north or south of equator2. Altitude - Distance above or below sea level3. Global Winds - What winds are blowing/where they're coming from/warm or cold4. Ocean currents - What currents are coming in/where from5. Topography - Distance from mountains (how close they are)6. Distance From Water - How close the area is to and ocean or lake (any body of water)These are the main most important 6.latitude, prevailing winds, mountains, large bodies of water, and ocean currents.Precipitation, latitude, trapping of heat, winds and ocean currents, shape and elevations of land masses. What is the effect of temperature change to the amount of heat content of the substance?

The effect of temperature change to the amount of heat content of the substance is called heat transfer. As heat increases, the temperature decreases.

What factor has a direct effect on precipitation and climate?

Latitude, elevation, proximity to the ocean, and the temperature of any ocean currents effect the temperature of a location. Temperature, in combination with landforms and distance from large bodies of water, effects humidity and precipitation. Temperature, humidity, and precipitation are the main aspects of climate, along with wind direction and seasons, which are effected by latitude and the other above factors.

Why don't cities in the same hemisphere have similar temperatures?

The reason is because of Ocean/Surface Currents. The cities are in the same hemisphere, but they don't receive the same ocean current. Some ocean currents are warm, while some are cold. The Ocean/Surface Currents have an effect on the air temperatures, too. Another reason is because of latitude. When a city is at a higher latitude the air expands and makes the temperature colder ,while if the latitude is lower the air loses moisture and the temperature heats up.

What is the average surface temperature of the ocean?

The temperature of he oceans varies as the depth. the salinity and the latitude. The polar seas (high latitude) can reach -2 oC (28.4 oF) while the Persian Gulf (low latitude) as high as 36oC (96.8oF). The average temperature of the ocean surface waters is about 17oC (62.6oF). The deep ocean is another story. About 90 % of the total volume of ocean is found below the thermocline in the deep ocean. This deep ocean water is between 0-3 oC (32-37.5oF) As a result the average temperature of all the ocean waters (as a whole) approaches these temperatures.

Do ocean currents effect temperature?
