Other to coal I suppose you mean. Burning of any fuel like oil, wood, etc. Nuclear reactors. I suspect solar energy would make steam. It would be possible to use natural steam from deep in the ground.

What makes steam-fired?

When water heats up to the point where it starts to boil, steam will descend from the water. So, water and high temperatures create steam. But, since other liquids also can create steam, I would say that if you boil a common liquid you will get steam.

How is resistance used in a space heater?

In an electrical space heater, electrical current dissipates energy into heat, and the heat radiates from the element. In a fuel powered space heater, an orifice throttles the fuel feed (resistance to flow), which controls the heating rate. In a steam powered space heater, an orifice throttles the steam (resistance to flow), which controls the heating rate.

What is meant by a renewable source of energy?

Renewable source of energy means that this source is not exhaustible by its use in producing electricity or heat (steam) or mechanical energy. An example is solar energy. Using sunlight to produce electricity through special devices, called photoelectric cells, will not exhaust sunlight coming to earth. Fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal are examples of nonrenewable sources of energy as they are exhausted by their use.

How are robots powered?

Robots are programmed to perform the specific task or tasks for which they were designed to perform. Robots are simply machines (hardware) that can perform one or more specific tasks. The programming (software) instructs the machine in which order to perform those tasks. Artificial intelligence programming can also be used to allow a robot to adapt to its environment.

Does technology always follow science explain?

No. Not always (but usually), sometimes the process of discovery can be reversed. The steam engine is one example. The only thing the inventors of the steam engine knew was that steam from boiling water could move the engine.

What energy source was used to power the steam engine?

The steam engine was primarily powered by coal, which was burned to heat water in a boiler, creating steam. This steam then expanded and drove pistons or turbines, converting thermal energy into mechanical work. In some cases, wood or other biomass was also used as a fuel source before coal became the dominant choice.

What is the significance of the steam engine?

The steam engine was the first convenient source of power. It powered the industrial revolution as well as ships and trains in it's day.

Is a coal powered steam engine sound energy?

A coal-powered steam engine primarily converts thermal energy from burning coal into mechanical energy to perform work, such as driving machinery or locomotives. While the steam engine does produce sound as a byproduct of its operation—due to steam release, moving parts, and exhaust—it is not classified as sound energy itself. Instead, sound is an unintended result of the engine's operation, which primarily focuses on the conversion of energy types.

What were the first automobiles powered by?

They were powered by steam engines.

Creator of the first boat powered by steam engine?

Robert Fulton was the creator of The Steam Powered Engine Boat.

How does a steam engine change chemical energy to heat energy?

A steam engine uses a hydrocarbon based fuel source. The combustion of the fuel releases the chemical energy in the bonds in the form of thermal energy.

What is the source of energy in a steam engine?

The energy source in a steam engine is the heat source that converts water into steam thus creating pressure. The heat source itself can be a coal, wood, gas or petroleum burner but can also be something different like a solar panel or a nuclear reactor (most nuclear reactors are themselves steam engines-generators).
