Photosynthesis occurs only during the day(in presence of sun).so a part oxygen produced during photosynthesis is stored by the plant for its use during the absence of sun and the rest is let off to the atmosphere

The plant changes the CO2 that animals breath out into oxygen during photosynthesis, to put it simply. Then the O2 that is produced as a byproduct is released into the air for animals to breath again. This is like a circle. Animals breath out CO2, then plants change it to O2, finally animals inhale the O2 and release CO2, then repeat.
