Because of their higher location above the ground, objects will have greater potential energy. If dropped, they have more distance in which to accelerate. They will increase their downward velocity until they either contact an object or the ground, or until further acceleration is prevented by atmospheric drag (air friction), in which case they are said to reach "terminal velocity."
