K normally means a thousand of something.

In the metric system K stands for kilo = 1000

In the binary system k also stands for kilo (eg kilobyte), but here k = 210 = 1024 (just over a thousand).

6K could also mean 6 Kelvin, a very low temperature (-267.15 deg C).
