Had black galaxy installed in my kitchen. Within 3-4 days very noticeable gray-lighter areas started showing up in many areas. The edges are dull do not shine at all. Is this true black galaxy?
Black galaxies will retain their "blackness" and shine unless
acted upon by some other force or substance. How have you been
cleaning your black galaxy? Comet is one substance known to cause
such dullness and fading if used incorrectly in the case of black
galaxies. Wikipedia has this to say about Comet cleanser: "Despite
being labeled as scratch free, its label instructs to use plenty of
water on delicate surfaces. Comet is not recommended for use on
silver, painted surfaces, walls, soft plastic, aluminum, or rubber,
except for tires." I have tried on a number of occasions to add
"black galaxies" to this list of items not recommended for this
cleanser but the changes have not come through yet.... sorry.
Perhaps if they had you would have had up-to-date information and
been able to avoid ruining the finish of your black galaxy. It's
doubtful that the original finish can be recaptured (although you
might wish to consult with and expert to be sure). What you can do,
however, is, at least, ensure that further dulling and fading is
avoided. Something like SPARKLE cleaner will be much easier than
Comet like materials.... although you'll need to find some
appropriate (and soft like a JCloth) cloth to use to apply it and
keeping those cloths from being sucked into your black galaxy or
burned up by any stray stars you encounter could be a problem.
