The earths movement around the sun is called as revolution and the earth's motion within itself in its orbit is called as rotation.

The most common use of the term "rotation" in math is in geometry. It is a form of translation, which is motion. Rotation refers to spinning about an axis point and is measured in degrees, up to 360. It is often coupled with reflection to describe the motion of the object.

Rotation means to go round and round `on the spot`. Normally for planets, the planets spin on its axis (once per day for Earth) is called the period of rotation or rotational period.

The motion of the planet moving around the sun is called the orbital period or period of revolution (once per year or 365.25 days for earth).
