A simple sentence is a sentence that contains a subject, a verb, and is a complete thought.

(A simple sentence is also known as an independent clause).

For example: Jack likes to play Baseball.

Jack is the subject, his liking something is the verb, and the complete thought is that he enjoys doing this activity.
