When you charge by friction you rub two things together. Charge is rubbed off one and onto the other. So the two things end up with opposite charge. Also, when something is charged the charge can quickly leak into the air if it is humid, so these examples work best on cool dry days. Examples; rubbing a balloon on a wall. After rubbing they will attract because they are oppositely charged and the balloon will stick to the wall. Brushing your hair can charge your hair and cause it to stand out. This is because all the hairs have like charge and repel(the opposite charge is on the brush). Sliding your fanny on the car seat. In this case the charge gets transferred to your body and to the car frame. These are both conductors and the charge can more easily jump off a conductor which is why you get shocked when you go to close the door, as the attracting opposite charges jump from you to the car door.

Do you have a floor, not carpet floor? If so, try pulling a chair along the floor. You will notice that it takes a little more effort to get the chair moving then it does to keep pushing it. (If it doesn't work, the chair might be to light.)

Works to slow down or stop motion due to surfaces rubbing against eachother; Skate blades rub against the ice, bringing the skater to a stop.
