* The Bohr Model of the atom, the theory that electrons travel in discrete orbits around the atom's nucleus. * The shell model of the atom, where the chemical properties of an element are determined by the electrons in the outermost orbit. * The correspondence principle, the basic tool of Old Quantum Theory. * The "Tear Drop Model" of the Atomic Nucleus. * Identified the isotope of uranium that was responsible for slow-neutron fission - 235U. * Lots of work on the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics. * The principle of complimentary: that items could be separately analyzed as having several contradictory properties.

Neil Bohr was physicist from Denmark that first gained an understanding of the atomic structure and quantum theory. The knowledge that he worked to gain allowed him to create the idea of quantum physics.

In 1912, the primary view of atomic structure was that electrons spun around the atomic nucleus, like planets around a star. In such a system, the electron could be any distance from the nucleus, and thus could have almost amount of angular momentum (AM) possible. While appealing, this idea failed to explain the emission spectrum of even hydrogen, the most simple of atomic structures. No physicist could construct a way to make a theoretical spectrum match the one experimentally observed.

In 1913, Bohr made the radical assumption that electrons could NOT be in any size orbit, but were confined to orbits (more properly, "orbitals") where the AM HAD to be some multiple of Planck's Constant ('h'; more precisely, this number divided by 2pi). Thus, an electron's AM could be 1h, or 2h, or 3h; but it could not be 1.5h or 2.3h. When making this assumption, matching the theoretical hydrogen spectrum with that of observation became trivial

He developed the idea of electrons moving about the nucleus of an atom in exact orbits. He explained the release of energy by the spectral lines of the hydrogen atom as a movement of electrons from one of these energy levels to another.
