Technically, eugenics is the use of any practice intended to specifically affect the genetic makeup of the population. Today the term is generally considered to be associated with unpleasant or reprehensible aspects of population control. One example is Nazi Germany's attempts to "purify" the human race by ridding the world of races that they believed to be deficient. Another is the use of sterilization and abortion to reduce the population of blacks in America. This was a founding principle of Planned Parenthood's Margaret Sanger.
