A hypothesis is an educated guess based on past scientific studies and previous experiments. It is not just a random guess.

Once a hypothesis is proved to be true multiple times and by various scientists, it is moved up to a theory. A theoryis believed to be true by the scientific community but the whole picture or reasons why the theory is true may not be understood. Example the theory of gravity, we know it's true but why and how does gravity work.

Then when scientists think they can satisfactorily explain the science behind the theory it is moved up to a law. Newton's laws of motion, the laws of thermodynamics are examples.

The progression is hypothesis --> theory --> law.

In modern times it is less likely that the scientific community to proclaim a law.
