I dont believe there is a big enough difference to differentiate the two words across the board. I think that although the context that you use the words in may result in one word or the other sounds weird I dont think it really changes the fact that the definitions of the words are vastly similar.
For example if you say in a sentance that "the police detective inspected the murder to find the subject" it will really just sound weird although it is not really changing the definition or message of what you are saying. It would just be more normal to replace the word incpected with the word investigated. Im sure people that speak english as a second language get this mixed up a lot.

An experiment tests a hypothesis; an investigation mainly collects data.
There are slight differences between the terms inspection and observation. Inspection is when a person takes a very close look at the details of something or someone. An observation is an opinion that is done from a distance.
Repetition is copying an investigation, while replication of an investigation is the results of an investigation, which is not likely to be accepted unless the investigation is repeated multiple times and the same result is obtained.

One difference is that "inspection" implies carefully looking at some thing or situation with a particular purpose. On the other hand, "supervision" implies overseeing a process to ensure completion or effectiveness.

In may cases there is no difference between a Safety Audit and a Safety Inspection. Where there is one, it is because a particular company has specified that.
periodic means on a regular basis. The inspection is done for example every two weeks while a scheduled inspection is done just once and only when you ask for it
