Unbalanced Forces will try to create Motion (Kinetic Energy), balanced Forces do not result in Motion. Gravity, Inertia, and Friction will all try to resist the Motion of the object....unless the Force is in the direction of the Gravitational attraction, then the affect is additive.

Give an example of an unbalanced force?

When you start falling, you are in the situation when you are subject to the unbalanced force - gravity. After some time of falling force of gravity is balanced by air drug force at that moment you reach so called "terminal velocity" and your acceleration becomes zero.

Is tis correct the force of gravity keeps Earth in its orbit or is it friction not gravity?

Friction has 100% nothing to do this the Earths orbit, its gravity and inertia.

The force that opposes the motion of an object?

Gravity. The inertia of an object will keep it moving until an opposing force stops it.Friction.Called inertia. To accelerate a body the force is mass times acceleration. No force = no acceleration. People say " the force is opposed by the massacceleration"

Are the forces balanced or unbalanced when a car is setting off?

Unbalanced. The rotational force upon the drive wheels must be greater than the force of inertia in order for the car to begin moving.
