Feelings of loudness are different from person to person. So don't talk of "measuring" the "loudness".
For psycho acoustic values we have units to express loudness:
Sone (loudness N) and Phon (loudness level L).
You can really measure the sound pressure with a sound pressure level meter. That is measured in dB SPL. Loudness is a subjective measure but sound pressure is an objective measure. But that is different. Don't mix it up. Scroll down to related links and look for more on decreasing of sound pressure with distance.
The sound pressure of 45 dB is about a quiet library and 50 dB is about an everage home.
Sound is measured in decibels. Decibels are units used to measure the intensity of sound. The highest decibel alarm clock available is 120 decibels, which can be compared to be as loud as the sound of a fire engine siren.
Sound is actually a vibration in the air which travels in the form of a wave. The larger the amplitude of the wave, the "louder" the sound. the smaller the amplitude of the wave, the "softer" the sound.
loud sound- a dog barking soft sound- the turning of a book page
A loud sound.
sound can be whatever you want it to be. As quiet or as loud as you want it. To be safe, don't turn the music or sound up too loud because it will/could shatter your ear drums. And also, you do not want it too quiet to where you can't even hear it.
A decibel is a measure of how loud a sound (any sound) is. 50 dB is about the sound level of gentle rainfall. Louder than a quiet room, softer than a quiet conversation. Not as loud as the dial tone on a telephone.
Loud sounds are high in volume and can often be heard from far away, while quiet sounds are low in volume and may only be heard at close range. You can use a decibel meter to measure the sound levels and determine if they are loud or quiet.
A quiet sound wave has lower amplitude and intensity compared to a loud sound wave. This means the vibrations produced by the quiet sound wave are less forceful and have less energy, resulting in a softer sound.
A few adjectives for sound are: loud, noisy, quiet, silent

In a quiet sound, the vibrations are small in amplitude and frequency, resulting in a soft and subtle sound. In contrast, a loud sound has vibrations with greater amplitude and frequency, creating a more intense and powerful sound.
The loudness or quietness of a sound is called its volume or intensity.
A sound level of 42 dB is considered to be relatively quiet, similar to a quiet library or a soft conversation. It is a low level of noise that is not very loud.
