When the starfish catches its prey, it prys open the mollusk with its arms. Then it injects its stomach and dissolves the insides of the mollusk. It then brings its stomach back into its own body and digests the food. It is basically turns its stomach inside out.
If it's before cooking, add some cornmeal so the clams can clean out their digestive track (less poo). If it's after cooking, no. don't do that.
