Any unit of volume will do the job, but the cup, pint, fluid ounce,
or liter will most likely produce the most convenient number.
To measure the carton I would use an inch. To measure the volume of cream in the carton, I would use a pint.

You don't say which country you are in ! Depending on that, it could be in liters, US pints, or imperial quarts.
A millilitre is a unit of capacity. A centimetre is a unit of length. The two units are therefore incompatible.
