What are the practical applications of a screw jack?

Screw jacks are now found commonly in cars for changing flat tires. They replaced the bumper jack because the bumpers became too light of weight to use and because they were not safe. They replace hydraulic jacks because those need fluid to operate and can leak and be messy. Screw jacks are also used in construction to hold or elevate beams in floors. The advantage is that they dont slip once they are set at a given height.
