Herbivorous animals are not always exclusively herbivorous. A cow, for instance will eat a fairly large quantity of insects that did not have time to escape. During extreme circumstances, a herbivorous animal might even resort to taking advantage of meat that might be present from available carcasses and some normally herbivorous rodents will even eat their young.

Something else to contemplate the next time that you are eating a fig newton. Figs are loaded with the larvae of the wasps that polinate them.
