Honestly I'm a little curious about this question myself. I'm currently a high school junior who plans to major in English too, preferably something related to Brit lit. For now I'm trying to take the most rigorous English and History classes I can take. I've taken Eng1,3,4(all Honors), AP Lang/Comp and AP Lit. And, you might ask why History? Well, everything literary has a historical background and period, so it is important to know your history too. So I've taken World Geography(H), WOrld History(H), AP USH, AP Euro History, and AP Govt/Econ.
In addition try to take challenging courses in other subjects like math (currently taking honors pre-cal and later AP Calc, foreign language (do all 4 years if you can)choose major-related electives (Creative Writing, Advanced Comp, Journalism...) and just do your best.
Even though higher up math/science is not generally required for an English major, its always nice to get intro freshman classes over with early and just makes you a more eligible candiate for admission.
hope that helps!
oh! and you might want to try to tutor/intern/volunteer/work at an English-related place. like a local newspaper or book club?
