Our ears and the sound pressure level meter "measure" the sound pressure of a sound wave.

Sound pressure is measured in newtons per square meter or pascals as sound field quantity.

Intensity is measured in watts per square meter as sound energy quantity.

Note: Sound power (sound intensity) is the cause -

and the sound pressure is the effect.

The effect is of particular interest to the sound engineer.

Pitch is the word used to describe the frequency of the sound waves. A higher pitch means a sound of higher frequency and a lower pitch means a frequency of lower pitch. Higher pitched sounds are shriller than lower pitched ones.

A decibel is a unit used to measure the?

decibels measure the intensity of sound.

What is used to express the intensity of a sound?

The loudness has to do with the sound field quantity called sound pressure or sound pressure level (SPL). The sound intensity or acoustic intensity means the sound energy quantity. Our ears and the microphone diaphragms are moved by the sound pressure variations.

What is a decibel level?

A unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal. Someones voice could raise by a decibel. It is used to measure the sound intensity and loudness.

The term that refer to the loudness of a sound?

Decibel:a unit used to express the intensity of a sound wave, equal to 20 times the common logarithm of the ratio of the pressure produced by the sound wave to a reference pressure, usually 0.0002 microbar.1928, coined from L. decibus "tenth," from decem "ten" + bel unit for measuring sound, after Alexander Graham Bell.

State the concept of the decibel?

A unit used to express relative difference in power or intensity, usually between two acoustic or electric signals, equal to ten times the common logarithm of the ratio of the power out to power in.

What unit of measurement is used to compare the intensities of different sounds?

The unit is the decibel, based on a larger unit called a bel. The decibel is measured as a magnitude on a logarithmic scale, and has no dimension as such. An increase in the numerical value therefore indicates an exponential (logarithmic) increase in the actual intensity or power. Example : an increase of 3 dB is approximately twice the power, an increase of 10 dB is 10 times the power, and an increase of 20 dB is 100 times the power.

This unit of measurement is used to express the intensity of a sound?

That would traditionally be the 'Bel', capitalized because it is taken from a person's name. A Bel is a whole lot of sound, so 1/10th of a Bel is much more common. The latin name for 1/10th is "Deci". Put them together and you have deciBel.
