Wood would be better to sit on in winter because metal takes away the heat from your body because it is a conductor. Wood is an insulator so it doesn't conduct heat away from you body very well. There four sitting on wood is better than sitting on metal in winter.

What would happen if we didn't have winter?

There are many places in the world that do not experience winter as many others do. Places along the equator stay hot to warm all year round. They have a continuous growing season. You would have mosquuitoes all year long and your electric bill would go up because of air conditioning.
