since speed is absolute value of velocity, but velocity is squared,

(speed)2=(velocity)2

then doubling the speed with no change in mass will change the KE by a factor of;

22=4

KE = 1/2 mv2 let m be initial mass and v be initial velocity KE= 1/2 (m/3) (4v)2 = 1/2 x m x1/3 x 16v2 = 1/2 (5 1/3) mv2 Therefore factor of increase is 5 1/3
