Width refers to the measurement from left to right or vice versa. In extension, height refers to something measured from the ground up.
Width will normally go first. Think of it this way: A piece of paper is usually 8.5 inches by 11 inches if looked at it by a portrait, not landscape so therefore, which one is the height? Yes, the second one. Another example would be map and graph coordinates where you quote the x axis value (the width) before the y axis value (the height).

Width of attached gingiva increases with age.
Multiply the height by the width Area = length x width or (height x width in this case)
The width is 4.5 inches. The height is 6.375 inches. It would be easier in millimeters: width 114; height 162.
height is up & down, width is side to side
length is up and down width is side to side
You can do it whichever way is more convenient for you. The answer is the same either way.
Length + length + width + width = perimeter. Length + width x 2 = perimeter
multiply length and width, then width and height, then height and width then add your answers together the double it.
The area should be measured the length way and then the width way. Then multiply the length by the width. (example: 15x10=150 square feet of area)
As I think, the base and breadth or width are same . Because as the width expresses the land the way base does the same thing.
A game need not have a length or width. For example, "it" or "tag" is a game but if played in an open space (not a confined playground) there is no way to define its length or width.

That is the way English is written.

You cannot: given only the volume, there is no way to determine the length, or width or height. If you double the length and halve the width you would still have the same volume.
