Electoral College
I can see the advantages of a constitutional monarchy, but all I can see is disadvantages if presidents were elected for life.
Sir Isaac Newton was awarded a Bachelors of Arts from Trinity college in 1665. He was also elected President of the Royal society and elected to Parliament for Cambridge University.
There wasn't one. The United States wasn't established with a Constitution or president until 1789. In 1700 it was still a colony of England. At that point, there was no United States; each colony had a governer appointed by the crown. After the American Revolution, the colonies became one country, but the central government had little more power than the modern day UN. This government had a position called "president", but that person was in charge of overseeing meetings of the legislature, rather than their modern executive position. The first president in the modern sense was George Washington, who was elected after the Constitution was ratified, I believe in the 1780's.
He was a Fellow of Trinity College, and later Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, at Cambridge University. He was elected a member and later President of the Royal Society. He was elected an associate of the Académie des Sciences. He was appointed Warden of the Mint and later Master of the Mint. He was knighted (as a knight bachelor).
