White light is a composition of colours. Usually remembered as VIBGYOR. Violet, Inidgo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red.
Red paint is red because it contains red dyes. Dyes are pigments that absorb all the colors in white like except the color they reflect. Thus a red dye absorbs all colours in white light except red. Light coming off it therefore looks red.
When red light and green light shine on red curtains, the red curtains will appear red. This is because objects appear a certain color based on the wavelengths of light they reflect. Red objects reflect red light and absorb other colors, so even when green light is shone on them, they will still primarily reflect red light, maintaining their red appearance.
The reason the rose is red is because it reflects red light. So if shining a red light on a red rose, most of the light will be reflected by the rose, but absorbed by the leaves. Absorbing light warms an item.
If you use blue light in the day and red light at night it should grow twice as fast but, I would use red.

Red light has a longer wavelength than blue light, so the quantum of red light has less energy than the quantum of blue light.
