For a long time, the Earth was thought to be only a few thousand years old. This was in line with Biblical teaching. The first "jump" in the estimates of the age of the earth were made by James Hutton, the father of geology. What did he provide for evidence? He discovered rock formations that were laid down in a way that suggested to him that it took a long time for them to take the form in which he now observed them - a lot longer than a few thousand years. (Pictures of the rock formations can be found by using the link to the James Hutton post in Wikipedia.) Needless to say, this raised the alarm of Christians almost across the board. They were up in arms. And many of them were scientists, too. But as he continued to make his point and others began to investigate further, the age of the earth was increased by tens of thousands and then hundreds of thousands of years. After some time, it was suggested that the earth was really millions of years old. And the estimates kind of hung around there with a few suspecting that the earth was even older than that. At last advances in chemistry and (in particular) physics, allowed the assessment of radioactivity within rocks to be used to determine the age of the rocks themselves, and, therefore, the age of the earth. We now know the earth is some 4.5 billion years old. A link to the Wikipedia article on this early investigator is provided.
more than 6,000 years old
Indirect evidence from Seismic Waves, and direct evidence from rock samples.
fossil evidence is when scientist study fossils to figure out how the animal died how it evoled
scientist do debate in discussing the age of the earth because there is many theories that saying when is the earth began or made
The year after Wegener died, Arthur Holmes published his idea that thermal convection in the earth's mantle could cause continents to move. Holmes also suggested that the continents didn't move but were "carried" by larger pieces of the earth's crust. The controversy quieted down and fell from prominence until the 1960s, when new evidence was brought to the fore. Discoveries of the Mid-Ocean Ridge and the work of Harry Hess and others led to the development of plate tectonics. Though not without problems, this theory has gained wide acceptance. It is the most complete theory of global dynamics yet, and its roots lie in the work of Alfred Wegener.
The Earth is around 4.6 billion years old, as suggested by all the available scientific evidence.
The bible never actually suggested the age of the earth, certain people have decided using what they believed to be clues to dates to determine that the world is six thousand years old. The evidence disproving their conclusions is great. The fossil and geologic record show that the Earth is billions of years old, and human records in Asia and the Middle East show that civilization existed over six thousand years ago.
more than 6,000 years old
Colombus
No! Christopher Columbus questioned this the world is ROUND!!!!!!!
it provides evidence of the EARTH's rotation.
There is no evidence that a flood covered the whole earth.
There is no evidence that a flood covered the whole earth.
No, bibles are made everyday and are still read throughout all the earth. Although this is a fact I wish more people would come to their sences and get to reading the book that surpases all others.
The pharaoh's authority was never questioned because the ancient Egyptians believed that the pharaoh had come to earth to manage Egypt for the rest of the gods. As a result, he had absolute power over all the land and people in Egypt. He was regarded as a godBecause if it was questioned they would be buried alive
pangea
It provides evidence of the Earth's rotation on its axis.
