Transition metals

Describe the inertness of Nobel metals?

the elements in which d-orbital are in process of filling, constitute a group of metals called transition metals or d-orbital elements .they exhibit a variety of oxidation states.there three seies of transition elements;such series consisting of ten elements.chemical behavior of the first transiyion series is similar to active metal except copper.three transition metals belonging to group 11 are copper, silverand gold.out of them gold and silver are relatively inactive metals because they do not lose electrons easily.

What is an 10 x 10 grid?

Ten columns and ten rows, forming 100 squares.

What are the ten metals?

Ten metals are platinum, GOLD, Silver, Tin, Mercury, Cobalt, Nickel, Copper, Iron and Lead. Though there are many more metals than 10.

Why was mendeleev work importanr?

Mendeleev, a Russian who enjoyed playing solitaire, marked a set of blank cards with the known elements, then divided them into groups based upon how they combined (i.e. by what we now call "valence"), with "metals" (i.e. electron donors) to the left, and "non-metals" to the left. Next, he arranged each group by weight (or mass), with lighter (less-dense) ones to the top and heavier (denser) ones toward the bottom. What emerged was "The Periodic Table" arranged in eight major columns that reflect the outer "octet" of electrons (with another ten columns interspersed, to account for more-complex atoms that transition from eight to eighteen electrons in the intermediate orbits).

What is palladiums group?

What is transitional elements?

A transition element is any element that is a transition metal on the Periodic Table.Added: All elements in group 3 to 12 (period 4, 5 and 6) are transition elements: they have 2 electrons in their most outer shell ( 4th, 5th, and 6th shell) while the shell of 'one level lower' (3rd, ... and so on) is filled up by 1 electron in each of the ten steps higher in atom number)Atom numbers from 21 to 30 (Sc to Zn) and 39 to 48 (Y to Cd) are the most common transition metals, but also 72 to 80 (Hf to Hg) in period 6, coming right behind the lanthanides (58-71).[The transition metals reside in the middle of the Periodic Table but do not contain rare earth metals: the Lanthanides and Actinides.]

How do you find valence electons on a periodic table?

To determine the number of valence electrons on the periodic table you look at columns 1,2 and 13-18. For columns 13-18 you just need to subtract ten from column number. For example, column 13 elements have 3 valence electrons. Most chemistry courses avoid the transition elements but you only need to consider the outer orbital of electrons.
