Because one side is the positive side (+) and one side is the negative side (-) They need to be there so people can place them in correctly. On objects there is also a plus and minus sign to match with the ones on the battery. You place the end with the plus sign in to match the end with the plus sign on the object and the end with the minus sign to match the minus sign on the object. Hope this helps!
Lithium batteries are button type.
In science, the plus sign (+) typically indicates a positive charge in the context of physics and chemistry, as seen in the notation for ions like Na⁺. It can also denote addition in mathematical equations or signify the presence of a particular trait or characteristic in biological classifications. In broader contexts, the plus sign may indicate enhancement or a beneficial aspect of a concept or treatment.
Batteries come under Chemistry, which is a subset of Physics.

When inserting AAA batteries, the positive (+) end of the battery should align with the positive terminal in the battery compartment, typically indicated by a plus sign. The negative (-) end should align with the negative terminal, usually marked with a minus sign. Ensure that the batteries are inserted in the correct orientation to ensure proper functionality. Always check the device's battery compartment for any specific guidance.

The Werker label on SLI batteries is sold at Batteries Plus and made by East Penn. That is NOT correct! Werker is a Batteries Plus privately owned brand name. Werker labeled batteries can be made by anyone that Batteries Plus has entered into a private label agreement with. When going to their store it is likely that their Werker batteries are made by 12 plus people. In the SLI automotive batteries they use Exide as their primary, they do have an agreement with East Penn as well and several other Mexican battery manufacturers. Problem with a Batteries Plus is you don't know what you're buying but it is likely you are buying whatever they could get the cheapest the day they needed batteries. The manufacturer of the Batteries Plus branded SLI battery depends on where the store is located. My local store orders directly from Exide Batteries Corp. and East Penn. Corp. From my past experiences working for an auto parts store East Penn has one of the best automotive offerings on all batteries while Exide has a lot less. I sold East Penn for years and was very familiar with their products and how they worked. Also keep in mind most Battery Plus stores are franchises not corporately owned.
