∙ 10y agoWater isn't truly purified. Pure water has no dissolved solids or gases, the treated water from a municipal supply is treated, not purified. Most municipalities draw water from a well, lake or river. That water is then filtered through a sand filter and then sometimes through an activated charcoal filter to remove odors and tastes. After filtration the water, if additional treatment is needed, is treated with softeners if it has high iron or calcium content. Most cities then chlorinate the water to kill off any biological contaminants, bacteria or protozoa. Some cities then flouridate the water, to help prevent tooth decay. Another treatment they may do is aerate the water, this helps keep the water tasting fresh. So, the water entering your home is safe and clean, but it is not pure.
