Cytoplasm is a transluscent, viscous fluid It has many inorganic molecules like water, salts and various organic compounds like proteins, carbohydrates and lipids. There are also nucleoproteins, nucleic acids and several enzymes in it. The protein particles, carbohydrates and salts are hydrophilic while fat globules are hydrophobic. The viscosity of cytoplasm changes under the influence of tmperature. The suspended particles display Tyndall Effect.Cytoplasm also shows resistance to flow freely which keeps the particles/suspensions floating and not settling down due to gravitational pull. All these properties (common to colloids) prove the colloidal nature of the cytoplasm beyond doubt.

Why is cytoblasm colloidal system?

Because cytoplasm has the proprities of colloidal systems . It consists of solute and solvent. The particles of the solute ranges from 1 to100 nanometer and it is a stable system as solid in liquid called sol.It is a suspensoid

Why is it important to remove the electrolytes in colloidal system?

Generally electrolytes' ions bind to the surface and damage the double electrostatic layer of colloidal particles. This greatly reduces stability of a colloidal system, since electrostatic repulsion is the main force keeping those colloidal particles apart.

What words are used to describe cytoplasm?

Cytoplasm is often described as the gel-like substance within cells that holds organelles in place and where many cellular activities occur. It is a colloidal solution composed of water, proteins, salts, and other molecules.

What is difference between sol and gel and emulsion?

Sol state is a liquid state .The colloidal particles repel each other. Gel state is more jellylike. The colloidal particles attract each other. emulsion are colloidal system in which both dispersed phase and dispersed medium are in liquid state .

What are the three types of colloidal system?

The three types of colloidal systems are sol, gel, and emulsion. In a sol, solid particles are dispersed in a liquid; in a gel, a network of solid particles is formed within a liquid; and in an emulsion, two immiscible liquids are dispersed in each other with the help of an emulsifying agent.
