Salt is an ion that lowers the melting temperature of ice when dissolved with it, such that the roads can self-clear themselves of ice and snow.

The salt make the environment hypertonic for the plants. More water diffuses out of the root cells than the amount diffusing into the cells.

Salt is a negative ion, thus containing a surplus of electrons. When water becomes snow/ice, it gives off energy and electrons. The salt gives electrons back to ice, increasing its temperature and melting it. However, salt also dries up moisture, which can in effect dry up water in the root systems of plants, effectively killing them. Thus, keep large quantities of salt from plants, the melting snow water will actually benefit them!

Who ever this is? I know how u feel this is my science question in college. I think it would make the plants start to die because the water it would soak in would have chemicals in it.
