Too much friction makes working parts and joints wear out quicker, and take more energy to make the parts move. An electric motor may work efficiently, using less electrical energy, if friction is kept to a low level. But, the motor would have to work much harder and use more energy if the friction of moving parts were not kept well lubricated.
