For everyday use vehicles would normally be measured in metres, eg 5.2 metres. This is the measurement that you would supply to a ferry or truck transporting firm for example. On the other hand, if components of the vehicles construction are being measured, as in the distance between seats etc, then it is more usual to use millimetres as this measurement is more exact.
