U wanna know? I'll tell ya. It doesn't. Culture are things that, if u took all governments away, the people of any particular culture would still engage in. Culture = what a people do traditionally when government is not around or involved. 'tis a human thing, an earth thing. Not a "u must do this, u can't do that" thing. "Keep your cultures. Don't be afraid of the vultures. Rastaman live up!"

***This is such a huge question, I would like to get help from someone else if you could add to my answer.

I think to understand how American culture affects other cultures, you first have to understand that its effect is compounded by America being so large and the American economy being so dominant in the world. America has 312 million people, or thereabouts. Just the state of California is the third largest economy in the world. Compare this to the whole of Australia, which only has 22 million people. The whole population of Western Europe is only a little over America at 400 million people.

The other thing that you have to understand is the freedom of the American culture. American children ranked number one in self-confidence in a study of 30 countries. Millions of American children are raised to believe that they can do anything, become anything, that the future is open to them. This means that Americans children as a whole have more creativity, mental freedom, and confidence to progress than children in other places in the world. They also have more opportunity to make use of these things than people in many other countries of the world.

Now to your question: How does this culture affect the rest of the world? Well, let me give a few ways. First, the typical creator of wealth in the world is an American. Why? American are risk-takers. They build companies, innovate, create new technologies, and strive to make new breakthroughs. Sure, other countries do this, too. Most countries have some specialties in which they are even better than America. But as a whole? No other country even comes close.

A Korean doctor was explaining to me that many other countries were worried about a nationalized health care plan in America. He said that although American's pay extremely high prices for their pharmaceuticals, it allows those companies to do research and invent new drugs and vaccines, which the rest of the world could never afford to do. Then the rest of the world benefits by being able to buy those drugs and vaccines at cheaper prices.

Americans export 25 times more movies and TV shows than they consume from abroad. You can have no idea of the scale of the impact of these movies and shows on local cultures - it is just huge. It influences local movies and shows in countries around the world, and influences young people's behavior and actions, and a desire to be like Americans.

In addition, Americans culture also influences other cultures by leading by example. For example, in donations. In 2000, Americans gave more than $200 million in charity. In 2001, the U.S. government gave more than $20 billion to 130 countries. Other countries give more because of this example.

People always talk about violence on TV leading to abuse. However, American culture has also helped women in other countries to understand that they can be free of abuse. In Japan, about one in three women are physically abused by their spouses, and one in 20 fear for their lives. The same goes in many other countries. But these women watch American TV, and they see that it is different. I have read several articles in newspapers and magazines over the years about women learning to stand up for themselves because they have learned about American culture or watched American TV.
