Latin America refers to the region of the Americas where Romance languages derived from Latin (such as Spanish and Portuguese) are primarily spoken. It includes countries in Central and South America, as well as Mexico and some Caribbean islands.
There are 20 countries in Latin America, including Mexico, most of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean islands.
Several islands in the Caribbean qualify as such. Some of them include Cuba, Haiti/Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Other islands within the region include the Galapagos (Ecuador), Cozumel (Mexico) or the Malvinas/Falklands (UK, disputed with Argentina).

Three major clusters of islands in Latin America are the Greater Antilles, which include Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and Jamaica; the Lesser Antilles, which comprise the smaller islands stretching from the Virgin Islands south to Trinidad and Tobago; and the Galapagos Islands, located off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.
