It helps to locate and place sites. It is a sort of guideline for location. If we didn't have geography... we'd be lost. Not only the latitude and longitude, but different landmarks such as mountains help us find our way back. It also helps us track history. We can see how the phyiscal parts of earth have changed since 1893. It helps us mark boundaries. This causes disputes, and that may lead to war over land. In war (or battle) geography can help as well. For example, when the 300 Spartans went up against the Persians in the Battle of Thermopylae, it worked to the Spartans' advantage. They worked with the land to push back the Persians.
