Continental drift is caused by the movement of tectonic plates beneath the Earth's surface. These plates float on the semi-fluid asthenosphere, driven by convection currents in the mantle. As plates move, continents on top of them are carried along, causing them to gradually drift apart.
The continents pulled apart due to the process of plate tectonics. The movement of the Earth's tectonic plates caused the continents to drift slowly over millions of years, creating gaps and rifts between them as they moved away from each other. This process is known as continental drift.
Theory of Continental Drift. This is the theory that continents move slowly over millions of years. The continents rest on sub-layers called tectonic plates which move away from each other, but also grind against each other.
The continents were moving away from each other in different directions. This movement eventually led to the formation of the current layout of continents on Earth.
When two continents separate, it is known as continental drift or divergent boundary. This occurs when the tectonic plates underneath the continents move away from each other, creating new land formations in the process.
They originated to there original spots in present-day .
There are faults in the earth and there were earthquakes on the faults that slowly moved the plates away from each other or one one top of another or they pushed up to form a mountain
Because it's an island situated away from other continents..
the techtonic plates are shifting (the continents are moving away from each other)

One of your wheel bearings are bad
You tend to believe that the continents have been drifting away with constant speed. If this presumption is correct, then the continent will come close to each other eventually with time. This is not correct. The speed of the drifting away of the continents has been not the constant one. The moment of the continents is not the random event. They are moving with a purpose as to fallow some law of physics. A simple example will explain the same. if you fill the water in small tank. There is tap at the bottom of the tank. The initial speed of the water that comes out is high. It slows down eventually. The same thing is correct for the drifting of the continents. The initial speed of drifting away was high. The drifting way will halt eventually as the continents get spread all over the surface of the earth. This is the theory. Submitted to the science community.

The continental drift pulled all the continents away from each other. I LUV MUSHROOMS!
