Sumner County in Kansas has been known as the 'Wheat Capital of the World' and Kansas was introduced as a state in 1861. But, I don't think that it was the wheat capital of the world in 1861. I would have to go with Chile. During 1840's and 50's they were exporting wheat to Australia and United States and were gaining international political stability until 1861. Chile established a reputation as the strongest naval power along the Pacific coast and until the 1880's its navy was larger than that of the USA.
