There are a couple of terms applied to poorly drained land. The worst case would be a lake or pond, a swamp would be more shallow and have vegetation growing above it, them a marsh or a bog are less wet than the others but are saturated with water.
A wetland is an area that is marshy or soggy, such as a swamp, bog, or marsh. The term may also be used to describe an area that quite frequently receives a large amout of rain. A wetland is acturley an area of water two or three feet above land.

The land that is soft and wet and yields to pressure is called marshland or a marsh. It is characterized by waterlogged soil and the growth of wetland plants. Marshes are found in coastal areas, river floodplains, and other low-lying areas with high water levels.
Quick sand, bog and muskeg all have such properties.
