You can make the border in about 165 miles. Manhattan is another 300 miles farther.

Although this is not entirely true; in fact it is 245 km (152 miles) to the bridge...

taking this route:

  1. Take CR-28 SOUTH (towards PORT HOPE), from the west end of Peterborough (EXIT 47 off [T-C] HIGHWAY 7/115) to HIGHWAY 401 - EAST to KINGSTON @ JCT 401 in Port Hope.
  2. Take HIGHWAY 401 - EAST to I-81 SOUTH to the THOUSAND ISLANDS BRIDGE crossing into NEW YORK STATE.

...and once you are in New York, it is 382 miles (615 km) to NYC taking this route:

  1. Take I-81 SOUTH, from the bridge, to I-90 THRUWAY - EAST to ALBANY, via I-481 SOUTH towards DeWITT (EXIT 29S off I-81 to get onto I-481 SOUTH ; EXIT 6 off I-481 to get onto I-90 THRUWAY (toll) - EAST towards ALBANY).
  2. Take the THRUWAY (toll) - EAST (on I-90 to Albany) and SOUTH (on I-87 past Albany) to New York City. You will be crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge across the Hudson River, and will enter NYC on the Maj. Deegan Expressway.

In total it is 534 miles and 860 km
