The talles mountain in the Syrian Arab Republic is Mount Hermon, known as "jebel-el-Sheikh" in the Arab world, located at the southwestern edge of Syria. It has a height of 2,814 m (9,232 ft) above sea level. Most of the mountain lies within Syrian territory, though a part of the southern slopes lies within the Golan Heights, illegally occupied by Israel.
