Hermes was depicted by Homer and some ancient Greek poets as being able to conduct souls to the underworld. He was the herald or messenger of his father, therefore he accessed many places where other Olympians could not reach. He had those winged sandals which helped him get around. His territory was virtually everywhere and anywhere that you can imagine, but he never actually seemed to want to control a particular place. It would be better to observe that he wanted to always be free to go where he wanted to, so happy to be untethered to the earth. Read more about him in "Hermes the Olympian", available on Amazon.
