Asia and Europe are part of one huge land mass separated by the Ural Mountains.
Europe and Asia are two connected continents that form the landmass of Eurasia. They are separated by two major mountain chains, the Ural Mountains and the Caucasus Mountains, in addition to the Bosporus Strait and the Ural River. Asia is also connected to the continent of Africa by the Isthmus of Suez, which makes Europe indirectly connected to Africa. All together, these three continents form the largest landmass on the Earth today: Afro-Eurasia.

Well, the theory was was that we used to be one huge continent called Pangaea and that was thought because there were similar fossils found on different continents. Scientists thought that we drifted away from each other over time.

Those tectonic plates are huge, they have the size of continents, when they start to move, a lot of energy is involved. You just don't want to be around when that happens. :) Those plates can move away from each other, they can move to each other and crash, they can even get on top of each other or rub against each other, which causes a lot of things like: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, formation of mountains, formation of seas, tsunamis, ...
